Birds were plentiful there being teal ducks a white crane, paradise ducks and many sea birds , larks everywhere parakeets pigeons, Kakas, tuis, bellbirds, crows, wrens and robin’s the most beautiful singers of all. There were plenty of wekas which have all disappeared now on account of the imported vermin.
