In October 2023 during the Taranaki Reimagine festival the Jewel and the Jeweller hosted a open ended Residency/Retreat at the Quarterbank for the lovely jewellers Amelia Pascoe (Ōtautahi) and Katie Pascoe (Whakatū). The cousins experienced early morning dips in the ocean, workshop intensives, gallery visits, theatre, fine dining, dancing. The duo also presented an impromptu exhibition of works in progress in our window gallery titled Second Sisters .

Looking forward to seeing what unfolds from here.

Ngā mihi nui to Kristin, John and Christabelle, Chanelle, The Govett Brewster and Len Lye whanau and TAFT.

Second Sisters

Katie + Amelia

The Pascoes

Both of us found this residency carved out much needed studio time from our full working and family lives.  We are so grateful for Jen, the TJATJ team and the wider Ngāmotu New Plymouth art community for the maanaki they showed us.  It was a rich time for both of us.  We have come away with a sense of a wider collegial jewellery and art connection and new ways into our studio practice that is gentle, productive and encouraging.  We especially loved our time visiting the Govett Brewster Gallery. And with that in mind we wrote this summary about our TJATJ residency:
