Hilary Johnstone’s Internal Road series explores a personal narrative through materiality and imagery. Hilary hand cuts sheet copper into bold graphic shapes, using traditional forming tools and techniques to beat, shape, bend, and patina each one. By further embellishing these large pendants with white paint and reflective road marking beads Hilary cleverly imparts signs of labour. The symbols become like markers on life’s journey of certain change and impermanence.

Hilary is an emerging contemporary Jeweller based in Whakatū/Nelson.

See Hilarys beautiful works in the Jewel and the Jeweller window gallery until the 22nd September.
