MB STONEMAN

The Jewel and the Jeweller is delighted to welcome printmaker MB Stoneman, presenting an exclusive series of new original cyanotypes in our window gallery.

Stoneman’s Morphosis works act as visual prose, describing the transformative nature of the human condition. Drawing on an evolving visual lexicon infused by science, art history and symbolism, the artist depicts shape shifting silhouettes roiling with forms of nature. These forms flicker in an out of existence, breaking through the veil into the void.

Stoneman works from her specialist print studio in Pātea, Taranaki.

Cyanotype is created using a photographic printing formulation sensitive to ultraviolet light spectrum.  It produces a cyan-blue print, this early photographic technique discovered in the 1842, was often used to capture exact detail of natural specimens. Due to inconsistencies of UV light and random exposures, many variables can be achieved, often with surprising results.

Stoneman is a printmaker, artist, poet, community arts champion, curator collector and owner of the BANKROOM gallery in Patea.
