Karaitiana is a talented carver based in Gisborne who has trained under numerous master carvers and also studied at Te Takapū ō Rotowhio , Aotearoa stone and bone carving institute. He specialises in making traditional pounamu toanga as well as impressive larger scale sculptural stone works.
Kaka Poria = a bird tethering ring, traditionally made from stone or bone, that served a dual purpose for Māori: it was used to confine the legs of pet kākā parrots (mōkai) and as a decoy to attract other wild birds for hunting
